We are a small rescue based in the Cambridgeshire area, run solely on the hard work of our volunteers. Most of the dogs that come into our care are either surrendered by their owners, or are pulled from the many pounds across the UK.
The majority of our dogs are placed in foster homes as soon as possible, and assessed prior to homing. Sometimes it is necessary for dogs to be boarded until a foster home is found, and this costs the rescue roughly £40 a week, per dog!
We aim to rescue and rehome as many dogs as possible, but we cannot do this without the dedication of our fosters and volunteers, working tirelessly to help the dogs and raise vital funds.
If you would be interested in joining us by becoming a foster home or a volunteer please contact us.
We cover all costs involved with fostering, such as vet bills, food etc., and we offer full support and back up should you need us.
Update on Harley
As expected we have had a HUGE amount of interest in Harley from people wishing to adopt him, our messages and emails have gone mad with applications for him. I'm sorry if you have not yet had a reply but as we are run completely by volunteers we just have not got round to everybody yet.
We are very sorry to say that Harley will not be available for adoption. We appreciate there will be lots of disappointed people but unfortunately the reason for this is beyond our control.
It was very apparent when Harley arrived with us that he had an issue going on with his hind legs/back and he was taken straight to the vets for this to be investigated, he has been back again today for x rays.
Sadly our vets feel that Harley has a neurological problem, this is causing him to be unsteady on his back legs and he has trouble coordinating them correctly. Unfortunately it would appear that Harley has been left like this for some time. Having discussed his options with our vet they have advised that to try and find out what is really going on he is going to require an MRI scan which we have been advised will be around £2000 and should he then require surgery this is going to be specialist, again running into the thousands. As a small rescue these costs are just not possible for us and the vet has advised that even after all of that the outcome is uncertain. It has been agreed by ourselves, the vets and his fosters that whilst Harley is not in any pain and has a good quality of life at this time then we would all like for him to spend what time he has left happy, cared for and loved. His foster home have offered for Harley to stay with them and their other King Charles to live out the rest of his days.
What time Harley has left is uncertain, he could stay as he is or sadly his condition could deteriorate and we have been advised that it is possible Harley could at some point become paraplegic.
I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to his fosters who have offered to take on this boy and care for him and who also very kindly covered the costs of his vet bills.
Im sure you will all join me in wishing Harley has as long as possible with his new family being loved.
Take a look at the pictures below of some of our dogs in the pound and then in their foster homes.
